![1. Wonderful location](image/why/10.gif)
Kumamoto is located in the middle of Kyushu, which is quite different from
urban areas of Japan, such as Tokyo and Osaka. While Japanese would call
Kumamoto the "countryside", the pace of life is a bit slower and it’s
a safe place to travel, live and study, as well as being much more economical.

![Just the right size](image/why/12.gif)
Kumamoto
City has a population of about 670,000. It’s just the right
size, not too big nor too small, and close enough to Fukuoka, the biggest city
of Kyushu, with a population of over one million, to get to the big city. Our
university’s size is also just right, with about 8,000 students enrolled. Our
campus is small, you can never get lost in it, and it is much easier to make
friends here.
